R. Marie Coleman, PhD

Professional Qualifications

Dr. Coleman is a Special Consultant for HSWMR. Dr. Coleman received her Bachelor of Science degree in Bacteriology from the University of Tennessee in 1966. She received her Master of Medical Science degree in Clinical Microbiology from Emory University in 1976. She received her Ph.D. in Medical Microbiology from the University of Georgia in 1980. Project experience while working for HSWMR includes: toxicological review of air emissions data and technical support regarding siting of a coal-fired power plant; toxicology of selected chlorinated organic contaminants and assessment of potential human health risks or environmental consequences from site-specific conditions near industrial facilities; toxicology of creosote, pentachlorophenol and associated wood treatment materials at industrial facilities; preparation of toxicological risk assessments for sites exhibiting soil and groundwater contamination by terpenes and other organic compounds; toxicological risk assessments for fluorides, radionuclides and other analytes related to phosphate mining, associated cooling ponds and gypsum stacks; toxicological risk assessments for numerous other sites exhibiting organic and inorganic contamination; litigation support concerning evaluation of the toxicology, health effects and exposure guidelines for ammonia and related compounds; toxicology and physiological effects of ethanol, including correlation of blood concentrations with degree of impairment; issues involved in permitting a hazardous waste landfill; evaluation of the toxicology, health effects and exposure guidelines for carbon tetrachloride, chloroform, trichloroethene and related compounds at a former industrial site; the toxicology, human and aquatic health effects and exposure guidelines for former wood preserving facilities; and the toxicology, human and aquatic health effects and exposure guidelines for former pesticide and herbicide storage and operating facilities.
